PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Monty Cobb has practiced law since 1983. His practice emphasizes employment law and business litigation for people and their businesses. Mr. Cobb is admitted to practice in all Oregon Courts, United States Federal Court for the District of Oregon, the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and United States Bankruptcy Court.

He has represented clients in hundreds of cases before these courts and in administrative agencies including the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, Unemployment Division, Department of Consumer and Business Services, Senior and Disabled Services Division, Department of Environmental Quality, Construction Contractor's Board, Board of Medical Examiners, Board of Dental Examiners, Board of Naturopathic Examiners, Board of Nursing, Workers' Compensation Board, and city and county local government regulators.

In addition to litigation, Mr. Cobb has extensive appellate experience and has briefed and argued dozens of cases in the Oregon and Federal Courts of Appeals and in administrative agencies.

LEGAL CAREER

Mr. Cobb began his legal career as a law clerk while still in law school and became a "certified law student" enabling him to practice law before graduation (under supervision) and began handling workers' compensation cases representing employers in 1982.

Mr. Cobb's clients have ranged from large corporations of national significance to the smallest businesses owned by a family or one person. His business clients have included professionals in private practice including physicians, lawyers, accountants and nurses. His emphasis on businesses stems from his belief that his personality and talents are most compatible with representing business owners and managers, as well as his belief that small and medium businesses are often victimized by the legal system and laws that were written for noble purposes but which are sometimes misused.

BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Monty Cobb started life on the East Coast, and moved West at 13. He graduated from college in 1972 with a degree in Psychology and a second emphasis in radio and television. He worked in radio as a production engineer and disc jockey in the Napa Valley, Berkeley and Portland, Oregon until 1975.

Mr. Cobb was a Mental Health Therapist and administrator in the Multnomah County Mental Health system (Portland, OR) from 1973 until 1982. In 1980, he attended Lewis and Clark Law School, graduated in 1983 and passed the bar exam that year.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

Mr. Cobb avidly enjoys sailing and boating of all kinds, especially cruising in warm water through beautiful islands. His interest in human psychology continues through reading and in his practice of law. He is a student of the art of cooking (not to mention dining). He spends "therapy time" gardening. He suffers from “chronic audiophilia.”
